Aboitiz returns to Banilad schools for Brigada Eskwela
Tuesday, May 25, 2010

Aboitiz Group team leaders and team members will take time out this Saturday to participate in the Department of Education's Brigada Eskwela program.
During the activity, the volunteers will repaint classrooms and do necessary repairs to prepare its partner-schools for the opening of classes in June.

Employees of Aboitiz Group companies in Cebu will do repair and maintenance works on two Cebu City schools in fulfillment of its commitment to support the Brigada Eskwela program of the Department of Education (DepEd).

On May 29, the volunteer employees will continue the works it has started on their adopted schools—Banilad Elementary School and Banilad Night High School.  In 2009, they repainted the exterior of the school buildings.  For this year’s Briagda Eskwela, they will repaint the interiors of the classrooms.

The Brigada Eskwela is a week-long activity of the DepEd that taps parents, alumni, civic groups, local businesses, non-government organizations, teachers, students and other volunteers to spare their time to help prepare public schools across the country for the opening of classes in June.

Repair works being undertaken by volunteers include painting roofs and classrooms; cementing footpaths; fixing leaking water pipes; and repairing toilets, chairs and desks, among others.

For two consecutive years now, Aboitiz team leaders and team members have been participating in the Brigada Eskwela, which is now on its eighth year.

Aside from Cebu-based volunteers from the Aboitiz Group companies, other business units in other parts of the country also conducted a similar project in their respective areas of operation.
