Aboitiz Foundation, Inc. turned over a newly constructed five-classroom building to Pulangbato Elementary School on Aug. 4 to help address the school’s problem on classroom shortage.

Cebu City Mayor Michael Rama and Vice Mayor Joy Augustus Young attended the turnover ceremony together with Aboitiz Foundation President Jon Ramon Aboitiz, Executive Vice President/Managing Trustee Sonny Carpio and DepEd Sec. Bro. Armin Luistro.

Department of Education 7 Director Recaredo Borgonia, Cebu City Division Schools Superintendent Dr. Rhea Mar Angtud, Public Schools District Supervisor Gemma Sy, Pulangbato Barangay Captain Maria Velasquez and Barangay Council Marlene Macuaare were present during the event.

The project costs P2.17 million.  Of the amount, 70% was funded by the foundation while the Cebu City Government put up a 30% counterpart fund. Construction commenced in July 2009 and was completed in April this year.

In 2009, more than 60 Pulangbato elementary students used to crowd inside one classroom, making it less conducive for learning. The Foundation addressed this problem by implementing the project as part of its aim to help narrow the classroom shortage and provide safety for both students and teachers under the education component of its corporate social responsibility programs.
