DepEd, Aboitiz Foundation to ink pact for Adopt-a-School program
Wednesday, August 31, 2011

Education Secretary Bro. Armin Luistro will lead signatories to an agreement that will strengthen the thrust of Aboitiz Foundation, Inc. (Foundation) to extend various forms of assistance to public schools through the Adopt-a-School program.

The signing of the memorandum of understanding (MOU) will be done today at the Foundation-initiated Interventions in Education 2011 at the Cebu International Convention Center in Mandaue City.  Luistro will be the keynote speaker of the event.

Aboitiz Foundation President Jon Ramon Aboitiz, and Managing Trustee Augusto Carpio III will also sign the MOU, while Department of Education (DepEd) 7 Director Recaredo Borgonia and City Savings Bank President Mikel Aboitiz will witness the signing.

The MOU is seen to boost the Foundation’s existing efforts in heeding DepEd’s call for private companies to provide assistance to public schools in the form of school buildings, assistance to teachers, food and nutrition, computer and science laboratories, and learning support.

Aside from the MOU signing, representatives from different schools all over Cebu will be awarded certificates as proof that they have received science laboratories, classrooms, baking laboratories and thin client systems, through the Foundation’s Adopt-a-School program.

Scholars and their parents will also give their testimonials as to how the Aboitiz Foundation has helped them with their education.

Now on its third year, the Interventions for Education is an annual event initiated by Aboitiz Foundation, the corporate foundation of the Aboitiz Group companies.  It focuses on the Foundation’s commitment to ensuring a better future for communities where Aboitiz Group businesses operate.

Liloan Mayor Duke Frasco and other local government officials, and representatives from the Department of Social Welfare and Development are also expected to attend the event.
