This school year, 600 students in Camalig, Albay will experience a better learning environment. AboitizPower (PSE ticker symbol: AP), through Aboitiz Foundation, Inc. and in partnership with Albay Electric Cooperative (ALECO), turned over a P1.7-million fully functional school building to Bariw National High School on June 4, 2012.
AboitizPower VP for Marketing Roland Gaerlan and ALECO assistant general manager Engr. Melchor Bueno formally turned over the newly constructed one-storey two-classroom school building. This in turn was received by Bariw National High School principal Celma Miraran,Camalig Consultant Carla Baldo, Jr. and Quirobin Matri, Department of Education Camalig supervisor also attended the event.
The donation only reiterates AboitizPower’s aim to increase the level of education quality in the Philippines through its corporate social responsibility
“We believe that the greatest legacy that we can leave to our children is education. It is for this reason that we make education the main thrust in our social development initiatives,” said Gaerlan.
In the first quarter of 2012 alone, AboitizPower, through its various generation and distribution subsidiaries and in partnership with the Aboitiz Foundation, Inc., spent P67.9 million for its education programs, which include the construction of school buildings, donation of computers and armchairs, scholarship grants, distribution of school supplies, and teachers’ training.
The power company forges ties with its host communities and business partners to ensure a more cohesive implementation of its efforts.
ALECO assistant general manger Engr. Melchor Bueno for his part said, “We are thankful to have partnered with AboitizPower for this project, and for the opportunity to help give back to the community. We hope that through this school building, we are able to make an impact to the students of Bariw National High School and the entire community of Bariw.”
ALECO contracted AP Renewables, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of AboitizPower, to supply over 37 MWs of electricity to Albay, serving 150,000 member-consumers of the power cooperative
