MANILA, Phils.: April xx, 2012 – AboitizPower (PSE ticker symbol: AP) has strengthened its commitment to spur economic growth in the Philippines while promoting sustainability. Through its various generation and distribution subsidiaries, AboitizPower initiated sustainability projects ranging from reforestations, tree-plantings, clean-up drives, and mangrove plantings, to educational activities to lessen power consumption, promote recycling and the use of sustainable materials, and encourage efficient water use.

The group invested over P29 million on environmental sustainability efforts last year.

AboitizPower’s sustainable efforts are fueled by 5 pillars: Rejuvenate Nature, Reduce, Re-use/Recycle, Renewable Energy and Recharge Communities.

Under the Rejuvenate Nature pillar, AboitizPower has initiated several projects to enhance the natural environment.

Through the pillar’s flagship program A-PARK (Aboitiz Passion for Agroforest and Reforest to Keep), Aboitiz Group companies hold simultaneous tree planting and other sustainability-related activities yearly as a biodiversity enhancement program that seeks to plant 3 million trees by the year 2015. As of 2011, 2 million trees have already been planted.

AboitizPower's distribution subsidiary Visayan Electric Co. (VECO) initiated a P19.4 million five-year project in partnership with the Philippine Business for Social Progress in 2010 to plant 1 million trees. The VECO Reforestation Park Project aims to reforest 540 hectares in Central Cebu Protected Landscape and 10 hectares in Mactan Island by 2015.

The Aboitiz Group has been known to actively support the Billion Tree Campaign of the United Nations.

For Re-use/Recycle, the group recycles used tarpaulin streamers and sacks, and transform them into bags, vanity cases, and raincoats under its ART or Aboitiz Recycled Trash Project.

AboitizPower is also a producer of Cleanergy, its brand of clean and renewable energy.

Under the same Renewable Energy pillar, AboitizPower and Aboitiz Foundation, the social development arm of the Aboitiz Group, has partnered with AMORE or Alliance for Mindanao Off-grid Renewable Energy Program to power off-grid communities in Mindanao by providing solar panels and recharging stations.

One of AboitizPower’s key initiatives under the Reduce pillar is its Race to Reduce program where various business units learn to prudently manage their consumption of energy, water and paper.



AboitizPower has also been a staunch supporter of Earth Hour since 2009, going beyond switching off lights by encouraging households and other businesses to do the same.

AboitizPower in Cebu is a recognized Earth Hour partner that holds a public event annually. This year, it became the corporate partner of WWF for the Cebu leg of Earth Hour together with the Cebu City government.

Recharge Communities addresses how communities benefit from business success and, in the process, become better stewards of the planet.

Many 2011 projects of AboitizPower were aimed to provide additional source of income and livelihood for communities. SNAP-Magat conducted a deforestation project of the Magat Watershed to convert grasslands into productive lands while Hedcor Inc. hosted an Eco-Market Day, where recyclable items were collected and sold, giving students additional funds for classroom needs.
