Thousands of out-of-school youths, adults and public high school students in Mandaue City now have new equipment and facilities to help them with their educational needs.

Students in the Alternative Learning System (ALS) implemented in Barangays Canduman, Tawason and Cubacub will now be using brand new computer units in their computer lessons.

The ALS, also known as e-Skwela, intends to train about 2,000 out-of-school youth and adults to help them acquire relevant life skills and prepare them for formal education. They will undergo an accreditation and equivalency exam (A&E), which, if they pass, would provide them with an equivalent of an elementary or secondary level of education.

The 12 computer units was set up at the multi-purpose building of Barangay Canduman, where reviews for the A&E in all ALS centers will be conducted.

Public high school students of four public schools in Mandaue City, meanwhile, now have new armchairs in their classrooms.
The 1,000 armchairs will go to students of Canduman National High School, Cabancalan National High School, Mandaue City Comprehensive National High School, and Labogon National High School.

Both the computers and armchairs were turned over by the Aboitiz Foundation to city officials of Mandaue City and Education Superintendent Virginia Zapanta.  Aboitiz Foundation Trustee Romy Ronquillo, Managing Trustee Sonny Carpio, principals and teachers of the recipient schools also attended the event.

The Aboitiz Foundation is the corporate foundation of the Aboitiz Group, with social development initiatives focused on the areas of education, enterprise development, primary health and child care, and the environment. With education as its main thrust, the Foundation allocates more than half of its annual budget to education-related projects.
