AboitizPower spurs environmental volunteerism among youth
Monday, April 2, 2012

Students band together for a greener, Cleanergy world through AboitizPower's Forest Nurturing and Clean Up Project.
Teachers and students of Alaminos National High School, Bitin National High School, San Pedro National High School, San Jose National High School, Don Bosco College, APRI-MakBan scholars, barangay officials from host communities, volunteers from Barangay Limao, Cadet Engineers, APRI employees and a security group participated in the one-day environmental sustainability project.
"As we draw power from the earth's natural resources, it is imperative that we reduce our carbon footprint by mitigating its effects to the environment. Through reforestation, our re-greening program and environmental clean up, we instill the value of protecting the earth to the youth and the communities that we serve," APRI SVP-Corporate Services Juan Alfonso said.
Volunteers of the Forest Nurturing and Clean Up Project, held at Bay, Laguna, conducted a weeding, cleaning, and fertilizing activity at Bulalo 30, where the MakBan geothermal reservoir is located.
The project fostered environmental awareness and concern among the youth from the host communities of Bay and Calauan, Laguna and Sto. Tomas, Batangas. It also encouraged employee volunteerism.
Most volunteers are among the participants of AboitizPower’s Youth Eco Camp (YEC). YEC members have created their own school organizations to promote and support efforts to protect and nurture the environment and lessen one's carbon footprint as promoted by AboitizPower.
The created organizations from the different schools serve as a ready pool of volunteers for APRI's CSR environmental projects. Eco camps help the young participants understand urgent environmental issues such as global warming and climate change.
