MANILA, Phils.: February 15, 2012 – Students and teachers of San Pablo National High School in Laguna experienced first-hand the benefits of AboitizPower’s (PSE ticker symbol: AP) Cleanergy, its brand of clean and renewable energy, during the launch of its school tour program.

The event is the first of a series this year, which will be rolled out nationwide in AboitizPower’s host communities. The school tour’s primary aim is to enlighten students and teachers’ on how we can make better daily lifestyle choices that can help preserve the environment. A comprehensive educational module, which revolved around this goal, was cascaded to the participants. They also enjoyed doing interactive games, playing with eco-friendly gadgets and equipment, including an energy bike charging station, an ingenious device that allows students to charge their mobile phones by pedaling a stationary bike.

San Pablo National High School has been AboitizPower’s neighbor through its wholly owned subsidiary, AP Renewables, Inc., which has been operating its Makiling-Banahaw (MakBan) geothermal plant since 2008. Through the years, AboitizPower has continued to partner with the MakBan community through educational, infrastructural, livelihood, primary health and dental care, and environmental initiatives. The company believes that partnering with its host communities is the key to protecting the environment in a collaborative manner.

The response of the participants was nothing short of inspiring.

At the end of the San Pablo National Highschool Cleanergy Tour, students and teachers made their respective commitments towards a better and cleaner environment.

“I pledge to encourage my student to do even little things to save the earth. I will also make them aware of the things that I've learned from AboitizPower, as I am doing it to myself,” shared San Pablo National High School teacher Crisee Brotonel.
 
“I pledge that, from now on, I will try my best to make this world better,” San Pablo National High School student Jerome Maloles mused.

The AboitizPower Cleanergy School Tour series will also be an avenue to promote Alter Space, the first Filipino online application on Facebook that teaches the online community how everyone can help protect the planet.
 
In Alter Space, players learn in a fun way how to make sensible, practical choices in their daily lives—all of which help reduce the effects of global warming and climate change, and decrease carbon footprint levels.
