Working street kids, senior citizens receive free optical, dental services
Saturday, October 1, 2011

Aboitiz Foundation (Foundation) joins the nationwide observance of Senior Citizens Month by holding an optical and dental mission today at the Pajo Auditorium in Barangay Pajo, Lapu-Lapu City.

With vision loss or impairment a common problem among senior citizens, Aboitiz Foundation deems it timely to hold the activity during the kickoff of Senior Citizens Month.

A total of 200 pre-selected senior citizens coming from 19 barangays in Mactan Island availed themselves of free eye check-up, conducted by Executive Optical, and complete eyeglasses.

Aside from senior citizens, 200 of the Foundation’s scholars under the Street Urban Working Children program also availed themselves of free dental service.  The dental check-ups and tooth extractions were performed by volunteer dentists from the Philippine Dental Association-Mandaue City Chapter and the Armed Forces of the Philippines.

The project is a joint effort of the City Health Unit of the Lapu-Lapu City Government, Department of Social Welfare and Development, and barangay health worker representatives from the 19 barangays.

Medical and dental missions, which fall under the Aboitiz Foundation’s primary health and child care program, aim to provide quality health care to those cannot afford it.

The Aboitiz Foundation is the corporate foundation of the Aboitiz Group with social development initiatives focused on the areas of education, enterprise development, primary health and child care, and the environment.
